Or perhaps there are (legal) PDF's available I don't use those, so I wouldn't know about them.Īlso, these adventures are for older editions of Call of Cthulhu than the current 7th edition (unless reprinted and updated recently). Be prepared to scout Ebay or other 2nd hand retailers.

Some of the adventures have been reprinted in later books, but many of those are now also out of print. Most of the books mentioned are out of print, though. I'm sure there is more, but this is what I know of. In it's Day of the Beast Version, chapter 2 ( Black Hills, Blackest Secrets) also has potential. The Fungi From Yuggoth is also lacking as a campaign, but chapters 2, 3 and 5 ( The Thing in the Well, Castle Dark and Mountains of the Moon) are worth looking at. Shadows of Yog-Sothoth is the best example of this, with Chapters 3, 4 and 6 ( The Coven of Cannich, Devil's Canyon and The Watchers of Easter Island) all being good enough to run individually.

Of all these adventures, The Sanatorium is, I think, the best as a One Shot and/or general introduction to Call of Cthulhu.įinally, while you don't want campaigns, there are some campaigns that aren't very good as campaigns, but that contain chapters that can be taken out and reworked as good stand-alone adventures with little effort. Lovecraft's Dreamlands all these adventures unsurprisingly involve The Dreamlands Season of the Witch is an 'Lovecraft Country' adventure as well). Good follow-up adventures in that same area are The Hills Rise Wild, The Condemned and Dead of Night (Arkham Unveiled), Return to Dunwich (Return to Dunwich this one is more of a sandbox than an actual adventure or campaign), Dead in the Water (Kingsport, City in the Mists), A Painted Smile, Watcher in the Valley and Fade to Grey (Tales of the Miskatonic Valley), Escape From Innsmouth and The Raid on Innsmouth (Escape From Innsmouth the 'Raid' is something truly special, and a great 'finale' adventure) and A Happy Family, The Whore of Baharna (Dreamlands) and With Malice Aforethought (Adventures in Arkham Country).īeyond Lovecraft Country, some good adventures are The Auction and The Asylum (The Asylum), The Rescue, The Mystery of Loch Feinn and The Secret of Castronegro (The Cthulhu Companion) Trail of Tsathoggua, Curse of Tsathoggua and The Haunted House (Curse of Tsathoggua the 'Haunted House' in this book is a completely different adventure from 'The Haunting' in the Core Rulebook), Temple of the Moon (Terror From the Stars), The Spawn and Tell me, have you seen the Yellow Sign (The Great Old Ones), The Crack'd and Crook'd Manse, The Sanatorium and Mansion of Madness (Mansions of Madness) and Pickman's Student, Season of the Witch and The Land of Lost Dreams (H.P. Edge or Darkness (Core Rulebook, 5th edition) is a great intro adventure, especially if you're going to base your game in Lovecraft Country.
